January / February issue 2011
Dear reader,
Winter time in Berlin is badge season, the sort of badges visitors to large-scale events wear to get into venues. So, if you happen to chance upon a particularly trendily attired band of badge wearers when in Berlin, chances are they’re on their way to the fashion shows at Bebelplatz (Fashion Week) or to former Tempelhof Airport (Bread & Butter). More down-to-earth badge bearers are probably drawn to the food and agricultural fair Grüne Woche on the Messegelände. Anyone else with a badge is a Berlinale participant on their way to Potsdamer Platz or one of the 13 participating cinemas. If you happen to be wearing one yourself, you might be well advised not just to follow anyone else wearing a badge. You wouldn’t want to end up somewhere completely different, after all.
Whatever it was that drew you to Berlin, besides the main events the city also has lots of lovely little details to offer. Why not go and explore and discover some of them for yourself? Did you know where you can get authentic German cuckoo clocks in Berlin? (See page 28.) Or which restaurant lets you assemble your own sushi? (Page 40.) And if you always wanted to know where to find a glitter machine in Berlin – you never know when you might need one – we can even reveal that too (page 71).
Have fun exploring!
Liebe Leser,
