Wheelie nice bikes and accessories this weekend

The annual Berlin Bicycle Show (Berliner Fahrrad Schau) takes place this weekend, signaling the beginning of spring and return of the bike as a sensible means of transport. Did we say sensible? We meant sexy, cool, green, stylish… You only have to take a look at the number of chic, oil-and-grease-free stores popping up all over the capital (eg. Stilrad) to see that the bicycle has become an unlikely status symbol. More and more people are willing to fork out for the right model, with some costing more than your average car. [READ MORE]

Designer for Tomorrow

In 2012, Germany’s Designer for Tomorrow Award was opened up, for the first time ever, to applicants from all over Europe. But there could only be one winner: Leandro Cano from Spain was crowned 2012′s Designer for Tomorrow by the judging panel, which is comprised of industry experts, including the award’s patron Marc Jacobs. The scent of Berlin

Pure Violet – that was the name of Marlene Dietrich’s favourite perfume. It is a fragrance which encapsulates the vibrant decadence and racy allure of 1920s’ Berlin like no other. Whilst the cabaret clubs have all but vanished, the perfume can still be found at Frau Tonis Parfum Manufaktur. Wrap up in Merino

Once upon a time, the Merino sheep was brought down from the highlands of North Africa and introduced to the Iberian Peninsula. Here, the fine wool of the animals was met with appreciation and was soon being sold to the rest of the world as “Spanish wool”. Nowadays the Merino sheep is mainly found in Australia, although the cooler climate of neighbouring New Zealand is more agreeable to the animals and guarantees excellent quality wool – something which Tina Wrede, owner of the “Just Merino” shop in Berlin, knows all about. Her small shop, located in the Potsdam old town, specialises in t-shirts made from 100% Merino wool, as well as jumpers, cardigans and scarves.
