The Teaches of Peaches

It’s hard to know exactly what to expect from a music workshop by Peaches, the potty-mouthed icon of electronic music and deliciously weird performance. Anecdotes? Technical advice? Encouragement? Exploding genitalia? We’re not ruling anything out.

It’s best to just go along and see for yourself – tonight from 7pm, she will be teaming up with electro-wizz Jacob Korn for the latest CDR Berlin, a regular event offering DJs and musicians the chance to develop and test out ideas and works-in-progress on a live audience. The event is supported by the Red Bull Music Academy and offers everybody and anybody the opportunity to have their music played to a dance floor of eager guinea pigs. You can either upload your tracks here, or bring them along on a CD or USB on the night. [READ MORE]

It’s raining rum

The number of men who provide for their familes armed with nothing but a spear and a loincloth, a sword and a steed, or indeed a pickaxe and a hard hat, has been in steady decline for some years now. Being a man nowadays has to be staged. But it is possible – this weekend, in fact, for men with style, and perhaps a little self-deprecation. The German Rum Festival will be taking place on the 6th and 7th of October at Station Berlin, an exhibition space normally home to art or fashion events. Next door at the F95 Store, the “For Men” event at the F95 Fashion Store will be serving up hard drinks, fine cigars and stylish old timer cars all day Saturday. [READ MORE]

Dolce Vita in Friedrichshain

The Zwingli-Kirche church is a neo gothic masterpiece located just off one of the city’s rowdiest streets: Warschauer Straße. So it’s surprising, really, that this beautiful building, which now serves as a cultural centre for all kinds of events, isn’t better known. [READ MORE]

Haute liqueur

Since it was established some 150 years ago, Cointreau has become a staple of any well-stocked liquor cabinet. Without its sweet orangey notes, we would find the cosmopolitan wanting, the margarita a bitter disappointment.

Dita von Teese is the “cointreauversial” face of the French liqueur, but she’s not the only famous aficionado. The Parisian fashion designer Alexis Mabille has recently had the honour of styling a limited edition of the iconic bottle: ”Dressing up the Cointreau bottle was a wonderful experience, just like when I dress up a woman; I loved striving to enhance its beauty without going too far.” [READ MORE]

Club Crush: Chalet

Once upon a time, there was a club in a little hut by the banks of the river Spree called Bar 25. The merry band of men and women who built the hut lived there for a long time, invited all of their friends and had lots of fun. [READ MORE]

Summer bubbly

Champagne and summer go together like, well, champagne and summer. During Berlin’s notoriously hot months, when the city transforms into Cannes by the Spree, there’s no better way to cool down than with a drop of ice-cold bubbly. Not any old bubbly, mind, but a drop of Moët Chandon. This five-star champagne can be found in various watering holes around Berlin, but the Hôtel Concorde has gone one better and recently opened up its very own Moët-Ice-Bar. Here you’ll find specially pressed champagnes, delicious when served on ice, as well as an impressive list of zesty cocktail creations. Enjoy a glass or two on the hotel’s summer terrace, located just off the bustling Kurfürstendamm. [READ MORE]
