Until 1989, Berlin was a divided city in which two of everything was needed: one for the East and one for the West. Town halls, stadiums, opera houses, public transport systems, police headquarters – and each half had at least one airport. Since the reunification plans have been underway for a new airport to cater to the rapidly increasing number of visitors flying to Berlin. And now it’s finally completed! On the 3rd of June, the first aircraft will dock at the newly built terminal of the former GDR airport in Schönefeld. In the night before the opening, technical equipment and vehicles will be brought over from the airport in Tegel in a giant convoy along the city’s ring road. Berliners and visitors to the city can look forward to new connections to the rest of the world and a modern, “user-friendly” airport. We can’t wait.
Frederick the Great was born 300 years ago and there will be lots of events during 2012 to commemorate Prussia’s most important King. The exhibition “Frederisiko” is now showing in Potsdam. So there’s never been a better time to visit the beautiful Sanssouci Park there. In the section “tour guide” our historian and city expert Bernd Ingmar Gutberlet will be taking us on a tour of the Unesco World heritage site right on Berlin’s doorstep.

Seit der Wiedervereinigung wird ein neuer Hauptstadt-Flughafen geplant, der den rasant steigenden Fluggastzahlen genügen soll. Jetzt ist er endlich fertig! Am 3. Juni dockt das erste Flugzeug am neu gebauten Terminal des ehemaligen DDR-Flughafens Schönefeld an. In der Nacht zuvor werden techische einrichtungen und Fahrzeuge vom Flughafen Tegel in einer riesigen Karawane über die Stadtautobahn nach Schönefeld transportiert. Berliner und Besucher können sich auf neue Flugverbindungen freuen und einen modernen Airport, der sehr benutzerfreundlich werden soll. Wir sind gespannt.
Vor 300 Jahren wurde Friedrich der Große geboren. Viele Veranstaltungen erinnern 2012 an Preußens bedeutendsten König. Die wichtigste Ausstellung, „Friederisiko”, wird gerade im Neuen Palais in Potsdam gezeigt. Daher lohnt sich ein Besuch im wunderbaren Park Sanssouci jetzt besonders. Unser Autor, Historiker und Stadtführer Bernd Ingmar Gutberlet führt sie in der Rubrik „Tour Guide” durch das Unesco-Weltkulturerbe vor den Toren Berlins.
